Learn More about Board to Board Connectors ~Various Features~
Learn about the various features of board to board connectors, including power supply metal fittings, robust construction and floating structures.
Advantages of Power Supply Metal Fittings
- Space Saving
By providing the metal fittings with an energizing function, the signal pins used as power supply can be consolidated, contributing to space-saving design. - Enhanced Robustness
It also functions as a fixing metal fitting to strengthen the peeling strength with the board.

Robust Construction
If metal fittings are provided on the inside of the receptacle of the board to board connector, it will be less likely to be damaged when the connectors are mated, and will be more robust. *1
Additionally, external metal fittings on both ends of the product prevent damage caused by misaligned mating. *2
Failure Case
If the receptacle does not have an inner metal fitting, insulator breakage of the vacuum area may occur due to misalignment during fitting.
Floating Structure
What are Floating Connectors?
Floating connectors have a structure in which an insulator housing, colored green in the figure on the left, of a mated pair of connectors is floating. It is impossible to mate general rigid connectors if they are mounted out of precise alignment but is possible with the floating type connectors. Even if connectors are mounted out of alignment, it is possible for a floating type connector (colored green) to move in the floating space to mate to the counterpart connector properly. Thus, the connectors absorb the positional deviation on boards and positional deviation generated in installing boards on which the connectors are mounted to the customers' units.
Advantages of Floating Connectors
- Possible to use plural pairs of connectors on a single printed circuit board.
- Degree of freedom in component layout and in circuit design increases.
- Stress applied to the solder joints decreases to suppress solder cracks.
