Unique Structure Takes Advantage of One-Action Lock Function

The essential features of one-action lock-type connectors are the automation of FPC/FFC insertion and the reduction of labor operation hours. However, in actual manufacturing sites, foreign matter on the FPC/FFC causes contact failure, which prevents us from taking advantage of the features.

The newly developed "6893 Series" has a proprietary contact pin structure unique to our company and twice the removal capacity compared to conventional Kyocera products. In addition to the features of the one-action lock type connector, which supports automation during FPC/FFC insertion and reduces labor operation hours, this product also improves foreign matter removal performance.

What is a one-action lock type?
This type of connector enables the FPC/FFC to be locked in a single operation (one action) of inserting the FPC/FFC.
A typical ZIF-type FPC/FFC connector requires three operations (three actions): (1) opening the lock, (2) inserting the FPC/FFC, and (3) closing the lock. However, one-action lock type connectors reduce the number of labor hours required for assembly to 1/3.

Innovative Pin Structure Improves Foreign Matter Removal in Electronics

In conventional FPC/FFC connectors, the contact pin and FPC/FFC fit in one place during FPC/FFC insertion to remove foreign matter adhering to the FPC/FFC.

The 6893 Series achieves twice the foreign matter removal performance compared to previous Kyocera models by using our proprietary contact pin structure that provides two contact points in the same direction as the insertion point. With this structure, our new product reduces the occurrence of contact defects.

One-Action Lock Type Improves Assembly Efficiency

A typical FPC/FFC connector requires three operations (three actions). In the 6893 Series, the locking section structure has been drastically revised to allow the connector side protrusion that fits into and locks the FPC/FFC to move when you insert the FPC/FFC automatically. This structure enables the FPC/FFC to be locked in a single operation (one action) when inserting the FPC/FFC and reduces the number of labor hours required for the assembly to 1/3. It can also handle the automation of processes by robots.

High Heat Resistance for Automotive Applications

The 6893 Series connectors are heat-resistant up to 125℃ and mountable on in-vehicle devices, such as HUDs, clusters, and CIDs with strict high-temperature compliance.

Keywords

What is HUD?
HUD stands for "Head-Up Display" and is a device that projects information onto a display in front of the user so that it overlaps the field of view. It is used for in-vehicle, military, medical, and gaming applications, but it is also used to display speed, car navigation, and other information on the windshield.

What is a cluster?
Generally, the word cluster means "herds, groups," but on a vehicle, it refers to a unit panel of various meters needed for driving, such as speedometers and odometers.

What is CID?
CID stands for "Center Information Display" and is an information display located in the front of the driver's seat of an automobile, i.e. in the center of the cockpit. Not only the car navigation map but also the parking assist function, air conditioning operation, and fuel consumption information are displayed.
