Introduction of Small and Low-Profile Connectors
Introducing two space-saving, low-profile connectors: an FPC narrow-pitch connector and a board to board connector, which are widely used for internal connections in wearable devices.
Overview
As wearable devices have become more versatile, they require a variety of connections through various modules.
For example, battery connections, display connections, main-sub board connections, and many sensor connections use FPC narrow-pitch connectors, board to board connectors, and battery connectors.
Kyocera offers a broad product lineup that includes space-saving, low-profile FPC narrow-pitch connectors, board to board connectors, and battery connectors.
Development Background
Wearable devices are utilized in a variety of applications, including healthcare, exercise measurement, notification checking, electronic payment, photography, scheduling, and location checking.
This market will continue to grow in the future and electronic components inside the wearable devices must be smaller and thinner in terms of shape and design.
To meet these requirements, Kyocera has developed products with a 0.35mm pitch and 0.6mm fitting profile for board to board connectors and 0.2mm pitch and 1.0mm or less product profile for FPC connectors.

Features of Narrow-Pitch Connectors for FPC
- Achieves high FPC retention.
When the FPC is engaged, the projection provided on the actuator fits into the FPC notch, thereby achieving a high FPC retention force even with a low pin count (3 to 6 pos.). - Wide variety
Kyocera has a wide variety of front flip, back flip, top contacts, bottom contacts, and dual-sided contacts.
Features of Board to Board Connectors
- Enhance robustness
Robust shape reinforces the reduction in connector strength due to narrow pitches and low profile. In addition, it prevents connector breakage due to misalignment during fitting operation. - Metal fittings with an energization 5A contributes to space-saving
By providing the metal fittings with an energizing function, the signal pins used as power supply can be consolidated, contributing to space-saving design.
