Development Background
With the widespread adoption of EVs and the rapid evolution towards SDVs, ADAS/AD innovation is essential for paving the way to safer transportation. The core mobility computer and IVI system in a vehicle are highly functional systems based on AI and OTA updates. Connectors must meet the demanding requirements of processing massive amounts of real-time data from high-resolution LiDAR and cameras. Key specifications include high data capacity, high-speed transmission, and exceptionally high reliability.
To meet this market need, Kyocera has developed the "5631 series" 0.5mm pitch floating board to board connectors that support high-speed data transmission.

What is an SDV?
It stands for Software Defined Vehicle. With an SDV, the performance and functionality of the vehicle are managed through software and cloud connectivity and can be updated with enhanced safety features and additional driving modes without physical modifications.
What is AD?
It stands for Autonomous Driving. The system operates automatically without human intervention. On the other hand, "Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems" (ADAS) support human driving and are characterized by a system to improve driving safety and reduce the risk of accidents.
What is an IVI?
It stands for In-Vehicle Infotainment System, a type of next-generation in-vehicle information and communications system. This system provides information and entertainment to drivers and passengers on the in-vehicle network. In addition to the car navigation system and car audio system, it also supports driving in a comfortable environment, such as watching videos, connecting to smartphones, and connecting to the internet.
What is OTA?
It stands for Over the Air. It is a technology that uses wireless communication to send and receive data. OTA allows software and firmware updates to be performed wirelessly. In connected cars, it is used to update navigation data and improve and upgrade driver assistance systems.

Features
1. Low Profile, Space-Saving
This connector features a space-saving design with a 10 to 14mm stacking height and shallow 9.9mm width, utilizing a precise 0.5mm pitch floating mechanism for reliable, high-density applications. Together with Kyocera's 5652 Series, we offer height variations from 10 to 25 mm. This makes it possible to respond to our customers' design needs.
2. Floating Capability that Compensates for Misalignment and Achieves High Reliability
The floating capability is ±0.5 mm in both X and Y directions. The connector design compensates for variations in PCB mating and minimizes solder joint stress to enhance long-term performance.
3. High-Speed Transmission Capability
Even with the floating capability, the design targets a differential characteristic impedance of 85 to 100 ohms, allowing compatibility with various high-speed transmission standards. It supports high-speed transmission standards such as PCI Express Gen.4 (16 GT/s) and USB 3.2 Gen.2.
Applicable Standards
- PCIe Gen.1 2.5GT/s to Gen.4 16GT/s
- USB3.2 Gen.1/Gen.2
- MIPI D/C-PHY
- SATA3.0
etc.
